History of Holly Springs
The town grew up around natural springs in an area previously a Tuscarora Indian hunting ground. In colonial times at a crossroads the town first got a sawmill, a church, school and a cotton gin and began to grow. The Civil War saw Union Troops stationed near the town headquartered in the Historic Leslie-Alford-Mims House. The town suffered because of the war and when the neighboring town of Apex got the railroad folks moved away.
In 1875 the town got another lease on life when George Benton Alford moved his mercantile business to Holly Springs. Eventually bringing the railroad to town and petitioning to have the town incorporated in 1877. The town has continue to grow since and is now in a growth spurt like it’s neighbors in Apex, Fuquay-Varina and Cary.

Parks And Rec in Holly Springs
The town recently opened the North Main Athletic Complex which is a $20 million multi purpose sports facility. The complex which features two soccer fields, a baseball field, multiple tennis courts and basketball opened in 2016. There are a number of other ball and sport fields in town. The Bass Lake Park facility is a 54 acre lake stocked for fishing and a conference center, nature center and greenway trails. Open year round, the park is home to native plants and wildlife. Located next to the lake is Suggs Farm which the town purchased in 2012 with plans for a multi use park.
